Black Forest Labs
Black Forest Labs is a frontier AI research lab specialising in visual intelligence. It develops the FLUX family of image generation and editing models — available via API, open weights, and enterprise licensing — used by millions of users and integrated by partners including Adobe, Canva, Meta, and Microsoft. The company was founded in 2024 by Robin Rombach, Patrick Esser, and Andreas Blattmann, researchers who had previously helped create Stability AI's Stable Diffusion models, and is headquartered in Freiburg, Germany, with a lab in San Francisco. In December 2025 Black Forest Labs raised a $300M Series B at a $3.25B valuation, co-led by Salesforce Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from NVIDIA, General Catalyst, and Temasek, bringing total funding above $450M.
